Produce audio versions read by native speakers – make available on the site, as a Podcast, and/or on YouTube
Fabulang Team
Dear Fabulinguists,
It's clear that having audio versions of our stories is something you really want – it's the top requested feature.
We are very, very slowly creating and adding these, using two approaches: (1) we hope that kind tutors out there will volunteer to record audio versions for free (but we've had very few volunteers); and (2) doing it ourselves. Either way, this approach takes a long time (and some money) to get a high-quality result (where the recording is clear, engaging, and the way it's read is helpful for learners).
And it's just taking too long!
So we have a new plan – we will pay native-speaking tutors to make recordings for us. (We'll still edit and clean up the recordings for a professional result.)
The money to pay them will come 100% from people donating to Fabulang on Ko-Fi and buying our ebook version. This is only now possible because we've built up a small amount from donations over time. If you want to support this effort you can help us out at https://ko-fi.com/fabulang
Either way, you can also help us out by telling any of your favourite tutors to get in touch with us on team@fabulang.com, if they are interested in helping us to create spoken versions. We'd be delighted if they were happy to volunteer to do it for free, but we are now offering some payment as well. To be clear, this isn't going to make them rich(!), the payment will be a small but fair amount. We're happy to work with any native speaker who has a clear and engaging way of reading.
You can find the audio versions that are already available on: our website, our YouTube channels, and our podcasts (search on Spotify/Apple). Hopefully we will be adding a lot more soon!

We're working on this again! Thanks to a new partnership with ElevenLabs, I feel confident we can now achieve a high level of quality in the audio narrations. The narrations will still be performed by humans, but we'll use ElevenLabs' tools to dub over the performance with an AI voice. ElevenLabs' AI voices are the best in the industry – they sound completely human, and they match the real human's performance, simply changing the voice. This results in crisp, clear, natural audio with a professional sound, and also means we can give different voices to each character. Stay tuned!

We are currently producing a test run of these in English (for learners of English)

Our test run was not a success -- we weren't satisfied with the quality level. We'll look into other ways of achieving a high quality audio version in the future.
